At The Brittons Academy, Student Voice and Student Action are central to all that we do.
We value the importance of what our students think, say and do and Student Action and Voice are a key plank in our mission to ensure students ‘See More, Do More and Be More’. As well as having their voices heard and valued every day in the Academy, all students have the opportunity to be involved in the following student bodies:
Student Council
The Student Council, comprising of one representative per form and a President and Vice President, are the eyes, ears and voice of the student body. The council is split into five committees and each half term the focus is on one of these committees. The whole council meet for an extended meeting half termly to report back student feedback and to plan half termly events. After this, the focus committee for each half term will organise more meetings to plan and deliver a particular event or initiative. This year, our Student Council have delivered a Valentines Raffle for Breast Cancer Now, a hugely successful Culture Day and a regular News Bulletin detailing student events. They have also provided feedback on reading strategies, marking and the school environment. Finally, the Student Council are a trusted and approachable group of students who help at school events such as Year 5 Taster Days or Open Days.
Senior Student Team
The Senior Student Team, comprising of a Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy, Deputy Head Girl and a team of Senior Prefects are the most senior student body in the school. They represent the school at key events like Open Days and Parents’ Evening and assist with the smooth running of the school. Every day, they embody ‘Excellence in all they do’. Each senior member of the team (Head Boy and Girl and Deputies) also have a different impact project that was identified during their interviews. Last year, the Senior Team delivered assemblies and initiatives on Exam Motivation, Enrichment, Careers and Reading. We look forward to seeing the exciting things our new Senior Student Team deliver in 2026-27.
ELAT Change Makers
The ELAT Change Makers are a group of six Year 9 students chosen by their Year Team to make a difference across the ELAT Trust. The Change Makers regularly meet with their contemporaries at Hall Mead School, Bower Park Academy and the CEO of the Trust to discuss ideas. This year, the Brittons Change Makers have decided to recruit, train and monitor a team of Brittons Welcome Ambassadors who will meet and help welcome new students to the school. The team wanted to make sure new students quickly met people who had similar interests and characters to help them settle quickly at Brittons.
Mental Health Ambassadors
The Mental Health Ambassadors help to support mental health in the school. Based in the school’s fully equipped mental health hub, the Ambassadors welcome students every lunch time to relax and discuss any mental health concerns. They also deliver assemblies and support other mental health initiatives. All the Mental Health Ambassadors have received external training to complement the support they give students.
First Give and other Activities
Students also participate in Student Voice and Action activities delivered from outside agencies – Year 8 annually participate in the First Give Challenge, Year 10 take part in the Jack Petchey Speak Out competition and the whole school are involved in activities run by the Ben Kinsella Trust. Year 8 and 9 students have also visited Parliament this year and all students have frequent assemblies with inspiring and aspirational speakers.
